The Mission
The mission of Economic Development is to achieve focused and sustainable long-term economic growth in the City and Española Valley. We are working to build a diverse and innovative local economy that provides opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs by strengthening partnerships among businesses, research centers, health care facilities and educational institutions. We are striving to offer residents high-paying, high-impact jobs, as well as the skills and training needed to be successful.
How We Help
Planning and Land Use staff work closely with regional partners to attract new business, retain and strengthen current businesses, and stimulate economic growth through catalytic projects and infrastructure improvements. Our department tracks available commercial land parcels to assist new businesses with locating in Española or help existing businesses expand or relocate. Planning and Land Use staff also identifies and pursues grants and other funding that may be of benefit to Española’s economic growth.
Employers often tell us that the things they look for in a community is a talented work force and high quality of life. At the City of Española, we are investing in transportation, including multi-modal and transit. The City is expanding its number of parks, creating trails and open space, while conserving public lands and critical habitats. And the City is working hard with our partners at North Central Solid Waste Authority and New Mexico Environmental Department to reduce waste through recycling, composting and other affordable, accessible programs.
