Maps & Addressing

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a component to the Planning & Land Use department that captures, manages, analyzes and displays all forms of geographically referenced data.  This provides City Officials, staff and the public with a tool that can, through maps, visually assist in making a well informed decision through spatial analysis.

The GIS Specialist is also responsible for maintaining the physical addressing for the city, and prescribed jurisdiction of Rio Arriba County, in accordance with the Municipal Addressing Code.  GIS Centerline data is provided to 9-1-1, and in conjunction with Windstream data, geo-locates the source of a call during an emergency.  Often utility departments, USPS, MVD and other entities and organizations request an Address Verification Form (aka E9-1-1 Form) to ensure address accuracy.
